Jewish & Christian Educators
Study Group

Program History

The Jewish & Christian Educators Study Group is an out-growth of a conference sponsored by the Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies in May 1997 entitled Faith for the Future: The Practical Implications of Teaching and Preaching in the Light of the Jewish-Christian Encounter, which brought together fifty Roman Catholic and Jewish educators from the Mid-Atlantic region. After the con-ference, a group of participants approached the ICJS with the idea that they wanted to continue the work they had begun at the May conference. In response to their request, the ICJS created the Jewish & Christian Educators Study Group. The group, consisting of approximately twenty-five Roman Catholic and Jewish educators, met for the first time in November 1997 for a full day of study. The group has continued meeting for two full days of study during each academic year since that time. In May 1999 the JCESG extended membership to Protestant educators. What follows is a list of dates and topics of the JCESG meetings. Each listing repre-sents a day-long meeting.
