Jewish & Christian Educators
Study Group

In May 1997 the ICJS invited Jewish and Roman Catholic educators from the mid-Atlantic region to participate in the conference, Faith for the Future. One outcome of that gathering was the formation of an ongoing study group comprised of conference participants who wanted to deepen the work, study, and friendships begun at the conference. Since that time, the Jewish and Christian Educators Study Group (expanded to include Protestant educators in 1999) has met semi-annually for all day sessions in which group members studied topics including Jewish and Christian understandings of: sin, repentance, and forgiveness; and liturgy, prayer, and spirituality. For the 1999-2000 programming year, the ICJS asked these educators to assist in the production of the Learning Resource that is part of the Jewish Scholars Project. Meeting for two daylong sessions, group members read, studied, and critiqued essays that the ICJS had com-missioned for the Learning Resource. In addition, they made significant recommendations of ways in which the essays might be more accessible to a broad-based lay audience. The ICJS is deeply grateful to these educators for their enthusiasm and ongoing commitment to this im-portant program.

The Institute has asked two members of the Group, Rachel Glaser and Rich Bozzelli, to report on their participation in this year's programs.

Additional reports by Study Group members Mary Jeremy Daigler, Geoffrey Basik, April Dietrich, and Dina Burt, are also available on this Web site.
