In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the ICJS, we invite you to join us for our annual Congregational Project. This program brings together a cross-section of Christians and Jews, men and women, young folks and seasoned veterans from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds to explore how our different traditions equip us to interpret the world around us. This year's program will concentrate on troublesome stories from our sacred texts, stories that haunt us and are often the source of dangerous misunderstandings.
Dr. Rosann Catalano (ICJS Roman Catholic Scholar), the Rev. Grady Yeargin (Pastor of the City Temple of Balti-more Baptist Church), Rabbi Joel Zaiman (ICJS Jewish Scholar), and Dr. Christopher Leighton (ICJS Executive Director) will each select a sacred text for reflection. One of the texts will be discussed each week. The format will be that of a Town Meeting, beginning and ending in plenary sessions, but the heart of the program will take place in small group discussions. The same groups will meet for all four sessions, enabling individual participants to develop closer relationships with one another. As in past years, the ICJS will configure the groups to take full advantage of the diversity of the participants.
The Congregational Project will take place on Tuesdays, January 16, 23, 30, and February 6, 2007 (snow date February 13, 2007) from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Beth El Congregation, 8101 Park Heights Avenue. Ample parking is available.
To help the ICJS defray some of our expenses, we are asking each participant to contribute $20. Since do not want the expense to hinder anyone's participation, we have set aside scholarship money. Please contact Laura Riger at 410-523-7227 or riger@icjs.org for details.
