Before and Beyond
Nostra Aetate
The Future of Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish Encounters
October 28, 2005 marks the fortieth anniversary of the Second Vatican Council's Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to non-Christian Religions, Nostra Aetate (In our time). In it, the Church declared that it "... deplores the hatred, persecutions, and displays of anti-Semitism directed against the Jews at any time and from any source" (#4). This groundbreaking document began a new chapter in the relationship between Christians and Jews.
