    In A Word     Volume 5, Spring 2003

    On the Horizon

I Am Joseph Your Brother Study Guide

Made possible through a grant from His Eminence William Cardinal Keeler and the Archdiocese of Baltimore.
The ICJS has continued its partnership with the Interreligious Coordinating Council (ICCI) in Israel to produce a study guide to accompany the video I Am Joseph Your Brother. The video, produced by Rabbi Ron Kronish and the ICCI in conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, docu-ments the changes in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church about Judaism and the Jewish people since the pub-lication of Nostra Aetate in 1965. The video and the study guide also explore recent challenges that are emerging as Jews and Christians forge a more reciprocal relationship. Intended primarily as a teaching/learning tool to be used in conjunction with the video, the study guide includes extensive background materials, study questions, supplementary resources, and sug-gestions for use. ICJS scholars Charles Arian, Rosann Catalano, and Christopher Leighton wrote some the the most extensive sections of the guide, which was co-edited by Rosann Catalano and Amy Kronish, on staff at the ICCI in Jerusalem. The guide, in publication as this issue of In a Word goes to press, will be available by mid-summer 2003.

    The Fall Public Lecture --
    September 18, 2003

The Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies offers outstanding writers and thinkers in free public lectures that challenge our community to explore new insights from divergent religious, ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic perspectives. On Sep-tember 18, 2003, we will host a lecture and book signing by Charles Kimball, author of When Religion Becomes Evil and chair of the department of religion at Wake Forest University. Dr. Kimball's book offers a timely examination of the nature and signs of religious evil, while outlining the correctives to these corruptions within each of the major religious traditions.
