The Institute Volume 14, Autumn 2004 Upcoming Events and Projects a Dangerous World The newest ICJS Radio Project takes on yet another contro-versial subject and has been embraced by both National Public Radio and Public Radio International. With God on Our Side: From Rivalry to Reconciliation uses the voices of believers and scholars from Judaism, Christianity, and Islam to explore the core assumptions embedded in our traditions. It begins with a survey of the reason and emotion tied to fundamental religious beliefs. The story then turns to three internationally respected religious leaders -- a Jew, a Muslim, and a Christian -- who confronted the parochialism of their own backgrounds, overcame dangerous misconceptions, and developed interpre-tations of their traditions that deny our tendencies toward religious violence. The program, again hosted by Sanford Ungar, includes interviews and commentary by a distinguished panel of scholars and clergy including Bishop Jane Dixon (Retired Episcopal Bishop Suffragan of Washington), Imam Yahya Hendi (Muslim Chaplain of Georgetown University), Rabbi Irwin Kula (The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership), Rabbi David Hartman (Shalom Hartman Institute, Jerusalem), Dr. Abduljalil Sajid (Muslim Council for Religious and Racial Harmony, London), and Bishop Krister Stendahl (Mellon Professor of Divinity Emeritus, Harvard University). With God on Our Side runs one hour and will premiere during the 2005 winter holidays on public radio stations nationwide. Program segments will also be highlighted on NPR's syndicated program Day to Day. For programming details or to order copies of Radio Project compact discs, please contact Marilyn Powel.
