Underlying the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are complex religious and historical issues. For American Jews and Christians, this has been a particularly divisive topic, marked by misunderstanding or ignorance of the deeper issues of our different historical narratives, theologies of sacred space, and approaches to peacemaking. Please join us for a four session mini-course that will be a frank and open exploration of these important issues. We will be joined by Jewish and Christian religious leaders who are part of the Maryland Clergy Initiative, a year-long program of study and travel sponsored by the Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies and the Baltimore Jewish Council.

In January 1994 I began what would become an extraordinary professional, intellectual, and personal journey when I accepted the position of Roman Catholic Scholar here at the Institute for Christian & Jewish Studies.
On August 31, 2011, I will be leaving that full-time position and begin working two days a week with "Reclaiming the Center," an ICJS program that is very dear to my heart. As a staff scholar dedicated to "Reclaiming ..." I look forward to teaching in its many programs, writing for future volumes, and advising on the project's continuing development.
One of the greatest joys and privileges of my years here at the Institute has been the honor of studying with you. Together we have looked courageously at the traditions we have inherited and found in them more wisdom and beauty than we had perhaps known and, in the process, discovered much more that needs redeeming. In so many different venues, wrestling together with so many different texts, daring together to ask questions difficult to form and even harder to say aloud, facing unflinchingly the wasteland created by our tortured histories, we have worked together to create paths and bridges toward a future that doesn't replicate the pathologies of the past. We have done this hard work together, and together we have discovered the blessing of the other.
In contemplating these next few months, one of the things I would most like to do is to have the opportunity to study with you one last time as the Institute's Roman Catholic Scholar. To that end, I invite you to join me to do the thing we most love to do together: study.
"Tuesdays with Rosann" is designed precisely as a forum wherein we might do just that! Each week we will study together a text or two or three—some of my favorite biblical narratives, a favorite poem, a portion of an essay, a liturgical text, a prayer ...
Bring a friend, join old friends, and make new ones in an atmosphere of lively exchange and stimulating discussion! Join me, won't you?
