Dr. Walter Brueggemann is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, Georgia. Through his teaching, lecturing, and writing, Brueggemann has effectively demonstrated the signif-icance of the Old Testament for our fractured world today. Recognized as the preeminent interpreter of the ancient texts in relation to questions posed by a variety of academic disciplines, he has shown the way toward a compelling understanding of the major components of the faith and life of ancient Israel.
Dr. Peter Ochs is the Edgar Bronfman Professor of Modern Judaic Studies at the University of Virginia. Ochs explores modern Jewish philosophy and theology, the history of Jewish thought and Jewish ethics, and the philosophy of religion.
This ICJS free public program brings these renowned scholars to Baltimore for an interfaith evening about our shared sacred texts. In addition, we have asked Drs. Brueggemann and Ochs to address these questions:
- Tell us about your own intellectual and spiritual odysseys.
- What have you come to believe are the most pressing challenges that your own community faces today?
- Why do you hold on to your tradition in the face of dysfunction and conflicts?
- In what ways do you think your tradition will need to continue to change to remain faithful to itself and to God?
Please let us know if you are coming by calling 410-523-7227. The program is FREE and open to the public, but it helps us to know how many to plan for.
